- I got the idea to write on citations when I saw a student struggling with an assignment and citations. The thought came to my mind that likewise many students suffer because they are not properly guided regarding citations. First thing first what are citations. Citations are references to source of information used to credit the author and allow the readers to locate the information themselves.
- A citation is a source of information used to support ideas, arguments, or statements in a piece of writing. Citations are essential in academic and professional work. They provide evidence of the research as it gives credit to the original authors and their researched material. By properly citing sources, writers avoid plagiarism and can contribute to the ongoing research by allowing readers to trace the origins of the ideas presented. Citations can take various forms, including in-text citations, footnotes, endnotes, and bibliographic entries, depending on the style guide being followed.
