A library is an institution which plays a pivotal role in an academic life of a student, since the time pen and paper have come into existence. However as the 21st century is moving from paper to digital the libraries are also undergoing a transformation to keep up with the demands of the changing society. However there are certain challenges that a librarian has to face in order to provide relevant information to students


1) Google is not the answer for every question. As a librarian you are aware of this but your patrons are not. Every information available on the net is not authentic. Hence as a Librarian it becomes a task to teach them that there are other sources that can be utilized and not just net based sources. Or to teach them to go to authentic source of information from the net.

2) When students do visit the library the easiest way to do reference is photocopying the entire book rather then reading and understanding the concept. The librarian has to persuade them to read the book instead of blindly photocopying. Also many times they want the entire book to be photocopied which again leads to a copyright problem.

3) Demonstrating the value of library is another major challenge that librarians has to face. Every year the librarians has to come up with compelling examples of how valuable their work is. The librarians has to demonstrate the connection of student with the material usage so as to build the importance of libraries in an academic development.

4) With the changing technology the digital world is gaining popularity with the masses. Hence to provide things in digital format a librarian has to abreast herself with the latest technology so as to provide and preserve the digital content.

5) Another major challenge faced by the librarian is the constraint budget. With limited budget it becomes difficult to maintain the library. Due this many valuable resources couldn't be purchased as the budget doesn't allow. Hence the librarian has to look for open sources which can be easily provided to the students.

Librarian has to be knowledgeable in a variety of information sources and follow the new trends and advancements in computers, media and publishing in order to provide better services to the patrons and to keep up with the changing demands of the information world.
